I was trying to work out which is better value/ease of use

If it's nearly as cheap to buy top soil in bags as opposed to loose
then it would be much more convenient

Is there a rough guide to how many litres of bagged top soil = a ton

Nobody forced you to work at Kew Gardens, woof. ;)
lol Svejk. I wish....I planted 40 x 50 litre tubs last year so the dogs and the wildlife can enjoy the garden and I can have plants and flowers too. Each tub takes between 90 and 120 l of compost because its packed loosely in the sacks and depending n the size of the plant rootballs and so on.. I have got 6 more 50 l tubs to do this year plus around 20 x 30 litre ones.
It was worth it, my spring bulb display has been stunning and the trees are now coming into leaf.
