I am trying to grow an avocado and it says it likes humus. ( Well the
seed didn't actually say it the instructions did )
I have Googled it and no one seems to agree what the heck it is
Can I just plant it in multi purpose compost ?

Humus is the dark organic matter that forms in soil when dead plant and animal matter decays. Humus has many nutrients that improve the health of soil, nitrogen being the most important.

Humus (Latin) is simply earth.
I thought is was a horrible dip made of chickpeas!
You need an extra M in the middle for that Margo, I love it!
But yes you could use compost

It's what I learnt in school as the rich composted organic matter in soil. Haven't heard the word used for years - substitute as said with good quality compost.
