Without looking at house deeds is it possible to tell who owns a fence dividing two properties. I was always under the impression that the 'good side' of the fence(i.e. the side where you cannot see the posts/frame, only the panels) would be facing the owner - unless the fence faced out onto a public road/path, in which case the 'good side' always faces out.

My Father-in-law has told me that there is a law which states if you own the fence the 'good side' must face your neighbour.

Appreciate it if you could let me know the facts.

as a fencing contractor i always say to customers... do you want the good side and they all say yes as they have paid for it!!

there is no law on this subject! your deeds will tell you which side of the fence you have to maintain?
