Carob Tree...

Hi all...

A relly has recently bought a house in Spain and has a Carob (Chocolate) tree in the garden, they would love to get rid of it, but have been told that they're protected under Spanish law as they are used to make Diabetic chocolate and animal feed.....anyone know if this is true.

What you have been told is true, it is used as a cocolate substitute and highly nutrious animal feed products are made from the large beans.
It's a highly prized tree in many parts of rural Spain, also valued for its shade and drought resistance.
As for being protected, Im not sure but it would be wise to check with the local authorities for that region.
