midge bites on scalp

Help!!! When out in the garden I get awful itching on my scalp...it drives me to distraction . It doesn't bother me if they bite elsewhere...but my head itches like crazy after a few minutes of being outside.
Anyone any ideas as to what I could do??
I live in Staffordshire.

I hate hats with a vengance....but I hate midges more!! Thanks.

This happened to me last weekend abcdabcd, bitten on ankles and scalp. Like you I dislike hats as they seem to make me hotter thus attracting even more mossies and midges!

My solution is washing my hair using either a shampoo or conditioner that contains Tea Tree. This really works.

Rub a small amount of lavender oil on your head before going outside.
