Growing a pineapple

I once saw a plant which was grown from the top of a pineapple. Is the top planted in standard type compost, how is it fed, etc etc?
Does anyone know how it is done?

I am about to attempt it so any advice will be appreciated.

Here you are dilligaf ..we used to do this years ago with the kids ..they never amounted to anything but it's worth a try for the fun of it .

Thanks shaneystar, I will give it a go and, in appreciation will send you the first pineapple that grows on the new plant, (just don't hold your breath though.)
