I have a lovely plant in my garden and I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is. My mum thinks its a Phormium and on googling this it does look like this except that mine is huge - it stands about 6ft high and spreads out about 10ft in diameter! It is now flowering and this means two stalks coming from the middle of the plant that reach about 15ft high and have about 9 pinkish-red flowers per stalk. Any ideas welcome.

Thats a good description meglet and I think your Mum is right. At a guess I'd say it's Phormium tenax.

I couldn't reach that link but yes I do think its a Phormium Tenax. Its an absolute beast, I love it! Its also been planted in a large tub which has then been planted into the soil. I would've thought this may stop it growing so big but obviously not. May be because its a colder climate then it likes.

Thanks for your help.
