our neighbours have just had their garden landscaped and have erected a garden fence between us they told us we could do what we wanted with our side so we set about painting it to match our garden making sure it didnt go through to their side but then they stopped us after getting half of it painted saying we are breaking the law painting the fence as it belongs to them do we have any rights to finish it off ps there is a low boundary wall which is on our property they have butted there fence up against it
what a cheek! not sure of the law, but i have never heard anything so ridiculous. Every single person i know paints their own side of the fence. What do they expect???
Is it already painted and do you not like the colour. If they want to be funny ask them how they are going to keep the fence your side treated as it will just go rotten OR will they expect to come into your garden when they eventually want to paint/treat it.
They have obviously had landscaping go to their head and now think they are a cut above the rest of you!
By law, its their fence, and you can't do anything yo your side without their permission,
I sympathise, because they originally gave it, but unfortunately, as I understand it, just verbally, unless you have a witness, I doubt theirs much you can do.
i'd get in touch with CAB and see what they say.
I would put your own fence up your side of theirs and make sure its different style and slightly higher and paint their side of it a vile colour and then their fence is going to look pretty hideous topped with yours but stuff em!
