Training ground cover to climb

There's some weeds and (I think) plants coming through my fence from my neighbours currently unmanaged garden. They seem to be mainly spreading across at ground level. I've found that one is a Vinca Minor (possibly la Grave) which I'm not keen on the sound of! But I would like to train it up my fence as I prefer green to wood. What do you think my chances are of this. My other half is calling it a weed, but I'd prefer to train it if possible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest Curiosity, I dont think you will have much of a chance in getting Vinca minor to climb your fence, it's a natural ground covering plant that forms a carpet in shady woodland glades.

Why not train a climber on your wooden fence of your own choice, ivy can be used as ground cover or a climber and some of the variegated forms are less vigorous and fairly easy to control.

Euonymus Emerald n Gold, which is usually grown as a ground cover shrub, will run up a fence or wall if planted close-by and be self supporting. Occasional light trimming will keep it in shape.
