Does anyone know of a product which will hasten the bio-degrading of old tree stumps. They are dead but too big for me to dig out.

Hi Bellringer,
You could try Ammoium Sulphate which should speed up the decomposing and it will break down natuerally in the soil.
You should be able to buy this product from garden outlets under the trade name of ' Amcide'
Good Luck. Tbird+
You could be in for a long haul waiting for them to break down. I wonder how many there are and are they conspicious? Could they be disguised with planting? If not, a stump grinder could be the answer, I'd get 2 or 3 quotes from reputable companies and they will be out in a couple of hours - end of problem. If you go that way, make sure all is 'neat and tidy' on completion before you pay.
I once used a product called Root Out which is biodegradable safe if pets are about and it worked
Someone told me sour milk would accelerate the process

Thanks for all the replies. It seems a bit of a job so I think I'll impregnate them with mushroom spawn, at least they will be of some use.
