Sure... should be done while the plant is still dormant, of course...

Many thanks but I suppose it is too late now!
It really depends on how carefully you transplant it. If you dig sufficient root ball it will still move fairly easily. Most Clematis are very resilient. Here in the western U.S. where I live, we normally see -20F minimum temperatures in the winter, yet our garden has 8 various Clematii...
After moving the plant, water well, butnot so much that it stands in water. Fertilize sparingly until it re-starts vigorous growth... Prune according to variety...

Best of luck! (How do you give yourself three stars?)

Thank you all.
I must be starstruck!!

Clanad. I'll be interested to discover what other plants you grow successfully in your garden. I live at 63 and a half degrees north but several thousand miles east of you.I've made enquiries in Canadian towns on a similar latitude to me but have had no response, and am frustrated by the lack of local interest and knowledge, except for the usual annual bedding.
Hiya nonomaybe (talk to children a lot, huh?)... we're at 46 degrees N. I really grow most anything that will do well with a growing season of about 150 to 160 days. I raise roses as a hobby and most do well, but the teas require a lot of mulching for winter. I tried the infamous "Minnesota tip" for them. but they were awfully muddy come spring. You're quite a bit farther north than we, however we are at nearly 5,000 feet above sea level. Main thing is to protect perrenials fromthe drying winds inthe spring... Are you in Canada?
Hi Clanad, I'm in the middle of Sweden and at the moment there seems to be nothing much that overwinters. I'm experimenting with an honeysuckle at the moment but will probably find if the cold hasn't got it the sork (voles) will!! Strangely (to me) the villagers up the hill, about 3 or 400 feet higher can grow apple trees, but not us !!
