I have gravel (chuckies) outside my front and want something to brighten up the front wall of my house, Would love a climer on a trellis. Is there a hardy wuick growing plant that will take well in gravel, or do I have to lay soil down before I can planty anything?

There are lots of different very decorative ivies available from garden centres, some variagated, some with cream or yellow leaves which might be suitable. Ivy is a very hard plant and its roots seem to thrive in just about any kind of soil condition. Clematis are attractive, but the roots are supposed to be protected from hot sunshine and I fear that sun shining on hot gravel would bake the roots. Ivies also grow very quickly once established and new leaves always have a nice glossy surface to them which is attractive.
If you are saying you only have gravel and no soil at all then you will not be able to plant anything in it. If that is the case then you could use a large planter and put a climber in that.
