forsythia twisting

a few months ago my forsythis stems started twisting around each someone told me this was due to using manure with too much urine in it the twisting occurred on stems upto one inch thick can anyone what this is called apparently there is a gardening name for it mani tks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Its called "fasciation" and is caused by a virus it wont harm the plant but it looks unsightly. Cut out the affected growth and dispose of it in your green bin! See also if you can improve the soil drainage around the forsythia as this has been known to lessen the potential for this growth to occur, it can also be genetic, or as the result of a bacterial infection from insects such as aphis which transmit infection to the plant when feeding from its sap.
