The Japanese Cherry (sometimes called Japanese Flowering Cherry or Oriental Cherry) does not produce edible fruit. Here in the U.S., the cherry blossom festivals inthe Spring, especially in our capitol Washington D.C. are based on this varietal. The trees, going back to before WW II were gifts of the Japanese government...
