hyacinth
we had a basket with hyacinth bulbs given to us at christmas they have been brilliant but was wondering what to do with them now they are past their best would they be any good for next year if we cut the stalks off

Still in the same pots, with only a bit of added top dressing. I don't cut the stalks off, I just put them outside on the patio against a wall, fpr a bit of protection. The leaves and stalks will just die off naturally. They get sufficient water from the rain, and only give them a drop of water if they dry out in the summer when the weather is quite warm. This winter they have been out through all the frost and are OK. The Hyacinths are just beginning to bud, and the min daffs have leaves about 5" tall. I shall bring them indoors this week. If you prefer you can pop the pots outside until the leaves and stalks die down, and then in the Spring, you can plant them out in the garden. This also works well. I'm pleased to have kept them for 3 years, and shall try them again next year. Hope you are successful, it would be nice if sometime you could let me know how you went on. Regards. Schutz.
