I think I must have posted my question in the wrong category because although I've been told I have answers I've not been able to find them so apologies to anyone who has already sent an answer! I'm planting seed potatoes for the first time in my gardening career and would like to know if there's a right or wrong way up to plant them.

That's because you posted your previous question in Food and Drink, which I thought was at least original...

I always start my seed potatoes in egg boxes on a window sill and once they have sprouted I plant them sprout growing upwards.
Although I agree with langara about planting them with the sprouts on the top side, I have read that you can plant them with the sprouts pointing downwards which leads to a heavier crop. I am not brave enough to try!!
I chit them like langula & muff. I then dig a trench about a foot deep, put some muck in the bottom, then a bit of soil. Put your spuds on top of the soil & cover with the remainder. Remember to leave enough room between rows for earthing-up.
make sure you allow them to sprout first, plant them in the ground then once they begin to spout through cover them, keep doing this for a few weeks then allow them to grow. once the flowers die off they r ready x i just plant mine, i dont know if there is a right or wrong way but they have always grown xxx
