As you have already dug over you are, as you write, wanting to get a finer finish. If the soil is quite loamy you can probably zip over the ground with the lighter types of diggers usually offered for hire. If however you have a heavier soil and you want to turnover to a deeper level than you have already then the heavier digger would be better, which has the engine and wheels in front of the tines.so you get a good leverage effect.
The lighter machines will be about 4hp and the heavier over 5hp.
