We have a wood on the property - (sorry I'm not too switched on with English trees ) I think it's Beech - and probably managed in the past. On the upper side of the wood there are virtually no bluebells whereas the lower side it's carpeted. The leaf litter is the same on both sides. Can't see any difference in the light or growth of the trees so is it maybe to do with something I don't know about or something as mundane as bulbs being washed down to the lower level?

Bluebells multiply around themselves so it's just that they haven't gained enough spread to reach the upperside yet. In another twenty years they'll cover the whole area probably.
