how do you grow a huge sunflower

any tips for growing tallest or biggest flowered sunflowers ?

My granddaughter won her school competition for the biggest sunflower by growing it in a large pot and giving it regular feeds of Miracle Grow.

Good drainage and plenty of liquid manure in a sunny position.

Keep to one main stem (pluck out any side shoots). Remove all flowers until maximum height is achieved around September. Dont let the plant dry out & feed weekly with plant food.

I'm glad you posted this question as I have got about 50 sunflowers growing from seed. I think when they are big enough to go into the garden i will plant them in a pot and just dig half the pot into the soil. At least that way it will be easier to water and feed them. They will be going into my friends garden, please read below to find out why.....
