Spring Weed & Feed from any garden centre.
Nothing in the way of fertilizer or weed killer will do much harm to the moss... rake out as much as you can and then find a moss and algae killer at your garden store. Here in the U.S. it's a hose end sprayer type. It should go on when the moss is growing readily. One bottle will cover about 1,500 squre feet. It's a calcium based product and safe for other plants and grass... One brand available here in the U.S. is Moss Aside Moss Killer. Avoid using it when the temperature is higher than 80 degrees (F)...
Sorry, I should have mentioned a way to clear moss, so what I do here in England is give the lawn a good spiking with a garden fork, pushing it in about 4inches all over the lawn, after raking out the moss and then a covering of sand which is then brushed into the holes left by the fork to provide drainage. I also gently lift the grass a little before pulling the fork out , this helps the soil to breath Hard work, but if you want to rid yourself of moss this is what to do every year until it`s all gone. If you have a lot of moss, use it to edge your hanging baskets.
good tip for using the moss, Carlton but will this spread across the hanging basket thereby suffocating the plants inside?
The moss you get from shops doesn`t, does it? What`s the difference? You only buy it because you haven`t got it at home in your garden.
