Slugs..... Grrrrr

This is probably a stupid question, but why do slugs eat my marigolds and lettuces and everything EXCEPT the weeds? Do slugs eat weeds at all?

I think this is a bit like children and veggies!
They will eat them if they have to but they prefer to eat pizza/chips/biscuits, etc. lol
I have a running battle with slugs in my garden as every new plant that I put out just gets decimated by the little blighters!
I have stopped them getting at the letuces by using a small plastic raised bed and putting copper tape all around the edge. I have also used it around pots of particularly expensive plants and it does work.
