I would like to move a large yellow conifir buy cutting it off at ground level as i am unable to get at the roots will it grow if I replanted it in different postion

No it wont
if you put it in water in a milk bottle it might throw out some roots..........

mature trees need to be moved with as much root as is possible (the root ball), into another large hole, firmed in ,very well watered for a good spell of time and you may just be lucky.

It is not a good idea to move large trees, they often die.
How large is it, for goodness sake????Mine are about 40ft high.
It will take root when hell freezes over.
