will pears ripen if taken off the tree

I have a pear tree that is so laden with pears that they are snapping the branches, will they ripen if taken off the tree & put on egg trays in the greenhouse ?

the answer is yes.
however if you have such a bumper crop lighten each branch selectively ie take of the largest and put in a drawer with a banana which will assist ripening.
this way you can lighten the tree and have a steady supply of fruit.
happy eating.
Would this apply also to figs?
Anything ripening is natures way or reproducing, therefore if it`s ripening, it`s gradually dying, and will set seed. So eat and enjoy when it`s ripe.
