Sick conker tree?

I have a conker tree which is producing less and less conkers every year. It seems to flower ok and some conkers appear, but most have fallen off already.
Has anyone got any ideas what I could do to improve the situation?

There is a rust type virus which has been affecting horse chestnut trees over the past two or three years and I don't know whether this is affecting a tree's ability to produce conkers. I don't think there' much you can do about it. I don't think it's fatal to the tree but it's probably advisable to clear all the leaves away once they've fallen and dispose of them so that any disease isn't tranferred to a compost heap.

One near my mother-in law's was looking really poorly for the last two years.

This year it is back with a vengeance, a fantastic crop of conkers.

Sounds as if all i can do is keep my fingers crossed although I will tidy up the leaves.
