OK, I am an animal lover, but I not very happy with the rabbit who has eaten all my crocuses (crocii!!) back down to ground level!! Just had to vent my anger. grrrrrrr. He will join the moles on my hit list.

(I couldn't harm any of them really)

The rabbits are wild Sachs. They come in off the fields. We have chicken wire all round but the front field gates are often left open at night and they occasionally get in there!!!
Did they eat the leaves or just the flowers? A patch of crocuses at the bottom of the garden haven't come through yet and after your post now wondering if it isn't the rabbits who've eaten them.

They seemed to eat the whole lot - They have left a couple of flowers (but the tops of the flowers have been eaten with the leaves. They were all there one day and now all you can really see is bare earth!! They were newly planted last year just in front of a window so I have been watching them on a daily basis and was taking great pleasure in seeing their progress!!

Grrrrrrr
So LoftyLottie that seems to be the reason as we do have rabbits down there. When it's a bit warmer I'll check that the bulbs are still in the ground and will confirm this.

Just caught your answer on the recent threads when I came back to the PC. I have read that because of the harsh winter the rabbits have turned to eating many more species that they didn't bother with before. The crocuses in my back garden are well advanced and blooming. The rabbits can't get in there.

The culprit rabbit who I saw this morning is huge and fat!!
ur own stupid fault for not protecting the crocuses/crocusi/crocus (?)
Question Author
Tambo. I have a vast garden wild garden. It simply is impossible to protect everything. Things have to take their chance.
its not the rabbits fault you've planted so many sweets for them....rabbits eat my bulbs and I eat rabbit.....lovely casseroled - yums ;)
Lofty. I've just bumped-off that rat I was writing about last week...1st shot as well:-)
Question Author
Yes, I did mention to Mr LL that perhaps we had better have rabbit stew in order to get at least some benefit from the bulbs. But, apart from rats, we don't shoot anything.
