Daffodils

This year I have noticed that the bulbs have plenty of green leaves but no flower stems. Can anybody give me a reason why this happens. Thank you

I'm no expert, but I believe it can be due to poor nutrition in the bulbs. Were they allowed to die right back last year ? After flowering they draw back nutrition from the dying foliage to replenish the bulbs.

commonest cause is not enough soil over the bulb, assuming that your daff bulbs aren't old and passed it. If, like us you have had a really wet winter, then it washes the soil covering away and results in blind bulbs

flowers are very late this year due to the very cold winter, mine have not flowered yet. They may just be late, depending on the variety you have any when you planted them can make a difference of about 6 weeks this year.

Did you plant them 8"-9" deep? or did you cut them down last year before they had died back? Or, you live too far north of the UK and they are suffering.

When a Daff' has finished flowering the flower head must be removed. Then the stem and leaves should be allowed to die back naturally. (Probably mid June)
Give them a light feed also when they stop flowering.
All this will feed the bulb and allow it to produce flowers next year and not come up "blind".
If they do come up blind next year take them and plant them in the countryside somewhere!!
That's how you care fore Daff's , and by the way they should be planted 3 x their own height. deep.
