Hi All
Have a superb Acer(Japanese maple) in the garden, but have never known what type it is. I have contacted the RHS but they want me to join first - £70 for me and the missus ! I have Vertrees book, but can't see it in there. Any ideas anybody ?
TIA

If you contact the Maple Society (which J D Vertrees is a prominent member of), stating that you're trying to identify a variety of Acer, they might invite you to send some photos to one of their experts:

(You might even like to join. At £13 per year it's cheaper than the RHS!)

What does it look like? If posting a picture is a problem, please describe:

Colour of leaves? Size of leaves?
Colour of bark? Patterned bark? Peeling bark?
Height? ...
God ... there are hundreds of this genus!

Thanks for the answers - luckily I have managed to find out which one it is - Acer Palmatum OSAKAZUKI. Went to my local garden centre and they had a fine specimen on display, so was able to get it's name.
Thanks again
