too late to sew grass seed?
I live in central scotland, in the countryside, and would like to sew grass seed on the verge bordering our property. At the moment there is just bare soil where we had removed dead hedging. Is it all right to sew the seed now? And do we include some extra nutrients before or while we sew. help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd wait until mid-September when the weather has cooled. It would help if you could spread the seed just before rains. Rake it in as best you can and don't fudge on the amount of seed. The thicker the better...

thank you, you two. I'm anxious to get grass down as soon as possible. With the soil being bare and raised, there's one awful mess when it rains and splashes the soil around. Is there usually some nutrients included in the grass seed, or is this something that should be done beforehand. the soil has been dug over and cleaned up somewhat, and I know to create a fine tilth before sewing, but that's about all.
I would say that now would be a good time to plant seed; in consideration of the fact that you are living well up north in the UK. For the south it is considered to be April or September.
