Japanes Anenomes
My Japanes anenomes are looking rather sad and small. Can anyone give advice on where they should be grown. Sun or shade and any soil type.

Ideally, they like a well drained but moisture retentive spot in full sun. They do tolerate some shade, clay and chalky soil and coastal exposure. I leave mine to die down then chop them off in early spring. You could try dividing them as long as you give them plenty of water. It is unusual for them to be small, if you divide, make sure each piece has got a good enough root system to survive. You could also check that nothing is eating the roots at the same time.
