Cat Poo

my neighbours cats are pooing all over my small garden. Half the time they dont even cover it up. Now they are sitting on my bird table. I get so cross it takes all the pleasure out of the garden. Any advice please. Many Thanks

you can either buy some granules that you spread on the area they use which will stop them, or alternatively get a battery operated cat scarer that emits high pitched sound we cannot hear, both work . If you go for the latter make sure thst you get one with a wide arc to cover most of garden and uses rechargeable batteries. They are about £20

I sympathise ... I used to keep potatoes by the back door and throw them at my neighbours 6 cats when they came into the garden. The upside of this was that a few months later I had potatoes growing!!

I'm a cat owner but sympathise with you. My cat got a bit over friendly with next door and in the summer would go and make himself comfy in their house while the back door was open. I felt terrible when I found out. Luckily for me they liked cats and thought he was nice so didn't mind. Give them a squirt with a water bottle. They hate it and might give up coming to your garden if they know that's what they will get.

I presume you don't want to fall out with your neighbour(s) or have you already!? So tell them that their cats' behaviour is unacceptable. They may solve the problem for you but if not you are warning them you will take action. There are products you can buy as ubasses says but I would try the simple deterrents first. Cotton stretched between small sticks, they won't like getting tangled in it. Spiky leaves like holly or thorn twigs, they won't want to tread/ sit on those. Small tubs or jars of ammonia, an objectionable smell for most animals. If that doesn't work invest in a hose pipe, cats hate water. If there is a hosepipe ban a garden sprayer with a large nozzle and a bucket of water will do just as well. Lastly cats like most animals don't like loud noises.
Bear in mind though that some of this might be objected to by your neighbours so do talk to them first!

Thanks everybody. Sometimes I feel like using Brendas idea. The trouble is by the time I get the back door open the cats have run off. Neighbour just does'nt care and I dont want a big row.

I got two Jack Russels, no more cats (well not left alive), no rats (again not alive), no mice (well..........) but lots of birds and a certain amount of dog poo.............hmmmmm

If the neighbour doesn't care, then I am sure they would not mind having their property returned to them, over the garden fence? (The poo, not the cats) ;-)

They won't be able to solve that little mystery (assuming poo in their garden bothers them) until they invest in a litter tray... which is only practical if kept indoors.

Beyond that side of it, I hope you manage to witness how the cats are managing to jump onto the bird table. Either it's not tall enough or it's too close to some other garden feature which they're jumping from.

It would be a real shame to have to stop feeding your birds for however long it would take for these cats to get bored of having nothing to chase and move on to someone else's garden, so I hope an amicable solution is found soon.

can you suggest to them to get a litter tray - i have one for murph and although she goes visitng she saves all her poo for me.

other than that just it back into their garden and keep doing it till they get the hint.

Buy a pack of 'water bombs', fill them and store them in a bowl near the back door or window. Whenever you see the cats in the garden throw a couple of the water bombs at them, they will soon learn that it is not safe to enter the garden and will hopefully go elsewhere.
