I cannot afford at the moment to have my house rewired and the lighting is not earthed. I am looking for a spotlight for my kitchen that is not metal. Any ideas ??

Are you sure, perose? I'd be very surprised if the whole lighting circuit has no earth. Are you sure it's not just your kitchen light? It's very common to find two wires coming from a ceiling (phase live & phase neutral). The rest of the wiring could have been pushed up into the ceiling void.
Check that first.

Thanks, all I know is that my kitchen fitter said he would be unable to fit a metal light ! Can't see a third wire, the house is 50 years old. I have got ceiling lights in my bathroom but they wired an earth (I think) on to pipes !!??!!
Ok perose............ 2 things I can think of:
If it's easy enough to pull some floorboards upstairs, you should be able to pick up an earth from the ring circuit (sockets). If there's no earth on that circuit, I would move out right away and have it re-wired!!!!
Or ............... if you can't find a spot with no metal parts, then go for a low voltage (12v) fitting. The transformer doesn't need an earth.
