Before any snidey comments yes I am thick as regards any practical things around the house.
The plumber came out as the radiator in my hall wasn't working. To get it to work he turned off all the other radiators, turned up the thermostat and bingo all was well.
However the radiator in my bedroom is now not working. I've just rung the plumber and he said he may not have turned it back on properly and told me to open up the valve further.
What valve?

Are we sure this is a radiator and not a radio?
Question Author
I haven't got a radio...
But is your radiator warming up ?
Question Author
No nothings happening and I opened it that much the top (with the screw thing attached) came off...
Time to call the plumber , I think.
Have you turned both valves, Crafty?
Question Author
No someone said the other was a balance valve and not to touch it...
Yes, they're right, but the plumber may have turned it off. Balancing isn't important right now. That can be done later.

To avoid the need for balancing again, see if it is turned off. If not, then leave it at its present setting.
Question Author
No that's not turned off, I'll see if the cleaner can fix it tomorrow as I'm obviously doing something stupid :-(
To me it sounds as though your valve is stuck closed. When the plumber turned it off, it has become stuck closed because of inactivity.
What I would do is put a hammer behind the valve that is warm ... actually rest the hammer against the body of the valve.
Then strike the front of the valve with the handle of a screwdriver or something like that. As a rule that would shock the valve open.

He only turned it off on Saturday...and I'm not allowed tools.
I so wish this had been posted in CB as a whole load on helpful and inappropriate innuendo is going through my mind :-(

Put you bed socks and night jacket on for tonight and try to get it sorted tomorrow Craft, you really don't want to balls it up at this time of night!
Ok Crafters........ Homer may well be right about a stuck pin.

Either that, or other rads are stealing all the available hot water, in which case, the system needs balancing.

Call your plumber back, I would suggest.
Helllooo thickey ;0)

Turn both valves as far as they will turn anti clockwise.
