Pir Switch

Can I replace a bathroom pull switch with a PIR switch controlling 5 x 50w downlighters. ?

Check with the current or wattage rating of the switch, if that is ok then no reason why not.

It would be good practice to have a ceiling-mounted one, so that it's out of reach.

It would need to be able to handle 250 watts. There are a couple of things to consider........

A regular pull switch switches the live only. A PIR might possibly need a neutral as well. Should be no problem in a ceiling though.

Also, check the length of time it stays on......... nod off in the bath, and you'll be waving your arms around trying to get it to come back on ;o)

Unless the PIR includes a feature whereby its operation is prevented under day time light levels – the bathroom lights will come on at any time of day or night, whenever triggered by someone entering the bathroom.

Thanx guys. Will need to check if the PIR I get needs a neutral as I am not sure if there is one at the pull switch. Seems like it can be a goer in principle
