I am moving to a smaller house and have an 8' long oak table and 8 chairs. Does anyone think it's worth sending it 30 miles to the nearest auction house, bearing in mind the cost of getting it there?
It depends on the age of it if the auction house will even take it. Without knowing the age and maker (if known) its hard to give advice as it could be worth £50 or £5000. Most auction houses will value free of charge and pick up for a small fee if its worth their while. You could always try it on Ebay or your local gumtree site.
chrissa - I would say don't send it to auction but try your local 'exchange and mart' or whatever they call it these days. I have sold a bit of furniture on Ebay. If money is not your prime objective then why not donate it to a charity shop?
You would be better off with Gumtree as people can search within certain distances of where you live. I have also recently moved to a much smaller house and sold loads of furniture on Gumtree. It's free too and they collect
When clearing my Mums house last year we put a lot of furniture on Ebay and were surprised that it all went very quickly. We put it on "buyer collects" though.....
