my daughter has just bought a frost free upright fridge freezer , is it supposed to make a noise all the time .

Unlike older fridge freezers, where the motor cut in and out depending upon the temperature inside it, modern fridge freezers have linear compressors which run all of the time. So they're bound to continuously make some noise but it should only be at a very low level.

Some do and some dont. I recently bought one from Wickes, own brand,I think it is called Lamorna. It makes no noise at all.
