My sons bedroom is on the ground floor with two large windows, one which looks out onto the road and so it is essential that he has some kind of window dressing but can anyone suggest something suitable? We don't 'do' curtains in our house and i wouldn't be seen dead with a net up at my windows. Currently he has venetian blinds but these have become twisted and bent in the care of an 11 yr old so we are looking for an alternative that is trendy and modern and 11yr old boy friendly??
I've seen roller blinds that are upside down. They are fixed to the window sill and pull upwards and stay where you put them IYSWIM. So you can have them high enough to block out any viewing from the outside world but they'll still let in light from the upper part.
what about the vertical blinds like they have in offices, we have them in our lounge/dining room and they are very robust, my son who is 18 also has them in his room.
Thanks for the answers - he particularly likes the sound of the upside down roller blinds so we will try and track those down for a start. Thanks again to all who answered
What about getting some window pens(Hobbycraft or some where similar will sell them) and making a picture window like stained glass effect, your son could design it himself??
I too would recommend some vertical blinds as they're very versatile. You can completely shut out the view, have them half open, or completely drawing them back to let it a lot of daylight when you want it.
They're also easier to keep clean than horizontal blinds as there is no flat surface for dust to settle on
Both type of blinds do the job, roller blinds come with blackout material and also vertical blinds can be made with blackout fabric. Concept and systems are different.
