Victorian Fireplaces

I have just moved into a victorian house which thankfully has all the original cast iron fireplaces. however, they have all been painted, a couple in very strange colours! what is the best, easiest and quickest way of removing the paint and what should i use to bring back the original iron colour. thanks Ian

Because a lot of these type of fireplaces have intricate moulding on them perhaps the only way is to use a paint stripper that can be used on metal. Tedious but it would work. Good luck

If there's no coating on the iron, like oil or wax, paint, or stove blackening, it'll rust.

nitromorse is really good as I did this in my old house. It does smell really strong though so wear a mask and have room well ventilated.
