Any plumber here could give me adivce please
When I switch on my hot water, I am getting a scarily loud banging noise coming from the loft. Then gurgling sounds in the boiler situated in the kitchen. Scared me so much I have not switched the water on since. Hoping to get plumber out this week, but in mean time. Does anyone know if this is a serious problem?

Some heating systems can be susceptible to noise problems as a result of baked on corrosion and limescale deposits on boiler heat exchangers.
Whilst power flushing may cure this, on some systems it may be an ongoing problem. But getting it flushed out with the correct chemicals and introducing a good inhibitor should cure or at least go a long way to solving the problem.
Or if the problem persists after flushing change the heat exchanger and some well placed automatic air release valves will also help.

Thanks gasman for that. Wish I had, had that reply before I got plumber out. When I switched system on, no problem whatsoever (typical) he fiddled around in the airing cupboard, and said he let some air out of one of the valves. Since then the system hasn't given me the same problem.
He wasn't very professional either. (though the ad in phone book said they were!) Turned up in a car, no tool bag or anything, asked if I had a long ladder so he could get into loft! (Which I didn't )
So lets hope his fix, was not just a quick fix. Thanks for your help though
