I have inherited a nice wooden bookcase. Unfortunately the owner was a smoker and the piece is covered in a film of nicotine. Any hints on how to remove this, and the smell, without harming the wood please?

Gently wash it with sugar soap and immediately dry it thoroughly leave it to air for a day or so and then give it a good coat of bees wax to seal it again.
