Heating house over winter whilst on holiday
What is the most cost effective yet safe way of heating house over winter whilst away for 5 weeks? Many thanks

otherwise, I leave mine on timer to come on/off throughout the day, but i've not done it for 5 weeks. Buildersmates idea sounds good though.

I would leave the heating on 24 hours a day but turn the heating right down to about 15 - 16 degrees. If you're going away now, we're running into the coldest part of the winter and the nights can get extremely cold. It's not worth risking frozen pipes. And don't forget to ensure you have a couple of lights, upstairs and downstairs, left on automatic timers, visible from the front of your house, so that the burglars don't know your house is unoccupied !
