MDF Paint job.? Having had a radiator cover made to measure, and delivered, and seeing as it's made, from MDF how do I paint it ? Do I need to undercoat it etc.? please help . Thanks
Tsk tsk not undercoat.
First coat with a thinned down coat of acrylic primer. The mdf will then fur up , sand it down and then give another coat of acrylic primer. The mdf is then ready to undercoat and then glosss or paint with eggshell paint.
If you undercoat straight offf the surface can get very rough when it furs up.
Speed and efficiency. I would paint twice with matt finish emulsion, first coat thinned to act as a seal. 2nd coat stirred and from the tin. Use 00 sandpaper between coat, to get a real fine finish. Then, when it is the colour you wish to end with, apply your top coat. MDF tends to soak like a blotter, the first couple of coats. Allow to thoroughly dry between each coat you apply.
