Can anybody tell me why you can`t buy hot and cold fill washing machines anymore,I have been told new machines are more efficient. I just can`t see how heating all the water from cold and running the machine for two hours for one load of washing can be more efficient than taking hot water from the storage tank and completing the same program in 65 minutes. I suspect its more due to the fact that most machines are manufactured in spain and they have never used hot fill machines. More EU rubbish to put up with !.

Taking the cynical view, cold fill only machines are cheaper to make. But with hot fill, consider that there's usually a fair amount of cold water going into the machine before the hot water comes through the pipe. And it's only the main wash that uses hot water - all the rinses are cold water. Unless you're doing 60 deg or 90 deg washes, a cold water fill shouldn't take too much longer than a hot fill. Remember that with a hot fill, you're still having to heat up the equal amount of cold water in your heating system, so the only saving with a hot water fill isn't money, it's just the extra time. We start our machine just before going to bed. That way, stuff is ready next morning, and we are never waiting for it to finish.

i agree with you have ago, its fine if you have only i load to do but with 5 adults all needing clean clothes on every day id rather the hot water tank did the heating and the washing machine did the washing quickly so i can get it on the line and get it dry but i suppose people use a tumble dryer instead of drying on the line

my new cold fill machine is faster than my old hot and cold fill one and the results are as good or better!
