Colour scheme for dining room

We live in a smallish terraced house and our dining room is North facing so quite dark. I wan't to redecorate but can't decide on a colour scheme. . We have high ceilings and a picture rail. I want to keep my moss green curtains, but we'll get a new carpet. We have dark wood sideboard, table and display case and I wondered whether to paper the chimney breast in some red /maroon paper and do the walls in the same design of paper, but creamy colour. Is this a really old fashioned look these days? Any other suggestions welcome!

I think that might make the room darker and draw the eye upwards - you may be better doing the wall on either side of the chimney breast a deeper colour and matching the chimney brest to the remaining walls. You might find something like a sofy lilac might work well with the green.

The dulux site always has some nice recommendations - just choose from the warm pallets to warm up the room.

Try mirrors as well, you can have a collection of different small ones on a part of one wall. I have several either side of my straight stairs & they have made it lighter as no direct window.
