Practical advice on a botched up paint job

I have an anaglypta covered wall in my dining room. It was originally painted in a yellow matt paint many years ago. When I tried to touch it up, I did not realise I was using a satin or silk type of covering and I now have a 6 inch blotch in the middle of my wall that shows the difference between both types of paints.

Is there any way I can tone down the silk/satin paint mark to make it blend in with the original matt finish that I used.

Hang a Picture over the Blotch and no one will ever know !!!!

as you've got the satin/silk paint could you not get someone to paint the whole wall for you - it wouldn't take them long and so shouldn't cost you much. Also the satin/silk will be wipeable so no need for touching up.

Thanks for your advice. However, I cannot hang a picture over the mark, as it would hit the person sitting against the wall. (The mark is quite low down against the wall.)

Secondly, I am unemployed and cannot afford to hire a painter or afford the cost of the paint. I have been wiping down the wall to get rid of the dirt.

I was just wondering if there was a way to nutralise the silk/satin effect, to make it blend in with the matt paint, rather than a complete new paint job..

Hi Want-to-know, as the wall was painted many years ago it would have gone patchy anyway. The paint on the wall would have faded so you wouldn't get it to match up. You can't put something with the satin type paint to make it look like matt as there will always be a bit of a sheen on it. The only thing you can do is to either buy a new can of paint which you say you can't afford or paint the whole wall in the satin finish and hope it doesn't look too bad.
