GAS FIRE NOT FIRING UP
5 Answers
My gas fire in the lounge was serviced a couple of months ago, everything fine. Now I find the ignition switch sparks, (new battery fitted) the pilot comes on with small flames but it does not seem to get to the secondary stage of lighting the main burner. Any ideas anyone as I cannot use the gas fire at the moment. The small flames are at the bottom but when you turn it up they go out.

Gas fires incorporate a flame sensor that prevents the main flow of gas from being turned on if a flame (e.g. from a pilot light) isn't present. It sounds like the sensor is faulty. Have the person who serviced your fire have a look at it.

Many thanks Heathfield, will do. I was reading the instruction book and it said something about a strobe being too cool to light the main boiler, I guess this is the sensor you are talking about. Still thought it was a bit odd as the pilot light is lighting no problem. Anyway, will have to call the gas man. Thanks again.
