I think we have a rat in the kitchen which has died, the smell of decomposing flesh has become stronger over the last week and it's quite nauseating.

We took off all the kickboards from the kitchen units and checked and found nothing except previous poison which the the Pest Control had laid was gone. We've cleaned it all, but the smell is worsening. Couldn't see anything under the stairs either, so perhaps it has died under the floor boards.

The Pest Control people are coming on Friday, but in the meantime, is there anything that can be used to lessen the odour? Household freshners do nothing. What will happen if the Rat catcher man cannot find a body either, will the smell eventually go? The last time he found the body and removed it.

I'm having dreams too, I dreamt last night there were rats running around in my bed nd defecating on the duvet. They were taunting me.

Have you looked behind the cooker that's where they usually end up. The smell will go eventually as will the nightmares.
and behind the fridge in the area where the oil cylinder is and that includes if you have an integral fridge !
Mr Tobin didn't use to live in your house did he?

Seriously, as the body dries out so will the odour, but in the interim you really need to find it to get rid of it. Also as an outside chance, the smell is not coming from the outlet of your washing machine, dishwasher, sink outlet pipes?

Or any bad potatoes lurking anywhere?
