hi..i want to make some pigeonholes for the post for 8 flats.this would be made from ply or mdf..our agent has said they cant be made from wood as the fire officer says so.is this true? and what can they be made of.my floor is made of wood and they havent said anything about them.he is a diificult person anyway and it seems ridiculous.

any help is greatly appreciated.

I take it this would be in the 'Entrance Area' of the flats ?

How large an area is this ?

The only issue I can see is that it may cause a narrowing of an Fire Escape route, but even that seems a little tenuous....
Check with the fire officer, but you can get fire retardant MDF.
It's going to be a Building Regulations issue as escape corridors have to be kept sterile. Call your local BR department and they'll talk you through it.
I believe it depends how many exits there are from the building. If it is the only one then I would think the decision is correct.
