It probably has more right to call itself London than Stansted has. When Eddie Stobart bought it, he wanted to develop it so he must be raking it in now if Easyjet and the like start using it.
Depends where you live I suppose. There is a lot of city money in Essex. Southend`s a nice little airport. No M25 to enounter which is a bonus at the best of times. Plenty of parking. It`s not subject to loads of fog like Gatwick.
not really Stansted is nearer I think and there is a link coach Victoria,Stratford, Stansted, no link to Southend and the airport is nearer to Rochford then Southend if my memory hasnt failed me but it years since I flew Southend to Belgium and Southend to Jersey.
I beg to differ 237SJ if you are trying to get there after 3.30pm any week day you encounter the evening " rush hour" on the A13,&A127 if you use the A12 then you have to divert, can take up tp two hours for a 40 min journey and there are road works too.Not a good idea.
I know, tell me about it. I`ve got friends in Rayleigh that I visit and the journey`s a nightmare. Regarding the M25 though, I was thinking of people from Essex using southend rather than people from the other side of London who would have to use the M25. When I have nightmare journeys over to Rayleigh, the M25 is by far the worst bit.
London Southend is being expanded now with a direct train link through to Stratford in readiness for the Olympics. Both Stanstead and Southend will be useful for European short hops I imagine.
By the way - 237SJ - Eddie Stobart died in the spring aged 56 years. He won't be raking anything in anymore.
Heathrow closest to central London, Chuck? That will come as a surprise to everyone at London City Airport!
London Luton is about 32 miles away from central London so, in terms of distance, there's not much difference between Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and Southend.
If easyJet are going back into Southend, perhaps the airport needs to update its website? It only mentions FlyBe and Aer Arann:
