My New Hoover Fridge Freezer - is it working ok?

HNC 4174. Doing it's job, but why does it come on and stay on for about 50 mins and then clicks off and is silent for about 35 mins. following the book and set to optimum level 3, but wherever you set it either coldest setting 1 or warmest 6 it works the same.!!
THe fridge temp says about 5C and the freezer about 22C whatever number I set it on!
Am I doing something wrng as a neighbour has a same model and that stays silent for hours, the motor only cutting in occasionally.

Can you clarify the temperatures there. The freezer should be colder than the fridge. How these operate depends on where they are situated, how full they are and how often the door is opened.

Sorry! Fridge is now showing between 0 and 5C and freezer MINUS (I should have said) 22C.
If I turn the stat to say 5 which is warmer it chunters on for even longer! Is the stat broken?
