You would obviously save on estate agent fees that come within 1 to 3% of the sale price. Your house would need to be unusual for it to sell privately though. Many buyers would suspect that you are doing it to save money on fees and may stay clear. I don't believe internet selling has taken off in a big way..you have to ask why.

I don't think a house would have to be unusual for it to be sold privately, we sold our last house privately and it was because of the fact that these houses were so popular and we knew that we would have no trouble selling it that we advertised privately. It was 18 years ago, so things may have changed, but we had two people view the house, the first couple looked around and asked how much would we drop the price by and the second viewer was a single man who made an offer the next day and proceeded to complete in a very timely manner.

As Kwicky said the fees will be between 1 to 3% depending on what the local agents charge plus VAT.

I dont think the saving would be worth the hassle of finding a reputable buyer who have their mortgage offer verified....
having said that, if you know you have a buyer and they are trustworthy (who can tell these days) all you really need to do is instruct both your solicitors ( no way do it without solicitors...thats a cost you must swallow)
